One little child is to blame for the decline of Ur, the Sumerian

city, over four thousand years ago.

One little child whose footprint is visible at the polar ice caps.

One little child is to blame for a spoiled vacation, a mudslide, for

tornadoes occurring with increasing frequency, for floods, for cracked

and dry soil.

One little child is to blame!

One little child, El Niño, surely we can’t blame ourselves for the

fact that this little one seeks us out in shorter and shorter increments

and with increasing intensity.

to answer the call of a humane self-perpetuating purger

no flesh far and no human wide

no sunworshippers laughing up their short sleeves

Planet Earth remaindered in the forecast

but where to emigrate to

don’t hesitate why not just

collect weather reports and be merry

it’s a conversational wellspring

an all-time favorite subject any hour of the day

And when time is up

with ice may come

something that is new

but today’s meteorological exchange rate

has no share in tomorrow’s market
